Should I....?
A. Go buy more socks and underwear
B. Forgo socks and underwear
C. Do laundry
I have this inner conversation every time I run out of clothes. It is a legitimate battle in my head. Today, option C was the best one. I don't want to leave my house to buy anything and have the day off anyways so hey, why not. Lets be productive.
Part of this lovely tale should have a design layout for you fellow readers. My apartment is a decent size, however it does not have a washer or dryer inside of it. My building has two washers and two dryers on the main level. I live on the third with no elevator so I am stuck trudging my three week long pile down two flights of stairs.
As most laundry stories go, of course once I get down there, both units are taken and this is a large, angry looking woman hovering over them, staking her claim. Back upstairs I go with my laundry.
So I do what any normal just-out-of-the-house twenty year old would do. I'll wash them in my bathtub! Yes genius! Just like what the Mayans most likely did, only better because the water runs from my faucet! So I pile in all of my clothes, run the water, throw some detergent in, and then......stare unknowingly as to what to do next. I have no idea what truly happens inside that washing machine. Do the metal bars gently knead my clothes? Is it supposed to feel so slimy?
Alas, after choosing to make my mission about getting the slimy feeling gone, and rinsing the heck out of my clothes, I am left with a heavy wet mess. I begin the process of wringing out all of the clothes, one by one and hanging them up. I glance at the clock. Two hours to wash my clothes. I should have waiting for the angry woman.
One benefit of my apartment is that it has a good sized balcony. It is nice out for a January day, sunny and warm. Winter has not hit us on the east coast like it has my parents back home, so I begin hanging all of my clothes. After an hour outside I see some strings hanging from the bottom of some clothes. How could they have snagged, I washed them with my own sweat and tears? Oh wait...those are icicles. They have not dried at all, just frozen.
Back inside to remove all of the clothes from my closet, hang up the wet ones, put towels on the floor and a fan on them to dry.
This was not worth the ten dollars I saved in quarters.
